Performance
One might imagine the Honda CR-V is more fun to drive simply due to the fact that it contains a standard 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 190 horsepower1 and 179 lb.-ft. of torque2. While these figures are slightly higher than the Sportage’s 187 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque emitted through a standard 2.5L 4-cylinder powertrain, its standard 8-speed automatic transmission may provide you a more engaging drive through Huntsville. While Honda’s contender does have a standard Continuously Variable Transmission, its focus on efficiency may lead to less-than-stellar commutes. Both SUVs do, however, come with a standard FWD system and an available AWD configuration. Regardless of which drivetrain you go with, you don’t need to worry about slipping on a damp US-431.
Comfort and Convenience
There are niceties in both the 2026 Kia Sportage and the 2026 Honda CR-V, however, you won’t have to spring for a high trim to get a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel in the former model. What is an optional amenity in the Kia Sportage are the stainless-steel pedals that provide your feet with more grip when you’re accelerating or decelerating. Such an embellishment isn’t found on the CR-V, which may be a disappointment for those who like sporty interior features. You’ll also stay a bit cooler in Kia’s SUV thanks to the optional solar control glass, which is a big help when it’s been sitting idle at Maple Hill Park for a long while. Such a convenient feature is also absent in the Honda CR-V.
Technology
If you aren’t yet sold on the Kia Sportage, you just might be when you see the disparity between its generous infotainment screen versus what’s in Honda’s model. Kia equipped its entry with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen display3, which the CR-V’s standard 9-inch color variant simply cannot measure up to. The Sportage also beats out its competitor with an optional 12.3-inch instrument display3. You’ll have to spring up to the EX-L trim of the CR-V to receive a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, which is small compared to Kia’s model. Whether you play soft ambient music or lively rock, the 2026 Kia Sportage’s standard 6-speaker setup will sound more crisp than the Honda CR-V’s standard 4-speaker variation. I met with him on a Thursday to initiate a conversation about buying a new car for my wife as a surprise. He answered all the questions I had up front and set up an appointment for my wife and I to come back and talk with him more. Unfortunately, we ran a little behind getting to the appointment and he was with another customer. However, he took a moment to greet us and had another salesperson (Henry) work with us. “ If I could give this review 0 stars I would. This is one of the worst Kia’s I have been to. I started looking for a new telluride hybrid for my family around a month ago. Drove one of their cars several times. I was given an out the door price on a white hybrid ex around two weeks ago before I went on vacation. I went back on Saturday to purchase a black hybrid ex and was offered $3500 less on my trade in (compared to other companies) and they added $2-3k more on the outdoor price. They would not show me the outdoor but when I added it together it was significantly more than I was originally quoted. It was very manipulative. Mike told me that the black hybrid ex was completely different than the white even though it had NO upgrades to it and both colors were considered upgrades. This Kia charged far more than the Kia’s within a 150 mile radius but because I live close, I was willing to pay a little more but not what they quoted. I called another Kia about 2 hours away and they gave me an out the door that was SIGNIFICANTLY less. I ended up getting a telluride hybrid x-line sx for almost the same price as the hybrid ex at the Huntsville location. Not only did I have a bad experience but my mom and sister in law had terrible experiences as well. My mom ended up buying from another Kia thirty minutes from Huntsville. My sister in law went with a different brand all together after they yelled at her for initialing a piece of paper and not buying the car. I would highly recommend doing your research and buying from a reputable dealership. ”
“ I am extremely disappointed with my experience. Within just six months of purchasing my brand-new 2026 K5, I experienced a tire defect. I made several attempts to contact someone by phone but was unable to reach anyone for assistance. When I visited the dealership in person, I explained the condition of the tire and expected support, especially since the vehicle is practically new. To my surprise, they refused to replace the tire and informed me that there was no coverage available. The explanation I was given made very little sense and left me completely baffled. Unfortunately, when I actually needed assistance, that coverage seemed to provide no benefit at all. The lack of communication, poor customer service, and unwillingness to help a customer with a recently purchased vehicle have left me frustrated and disappointed. I expected much better treatment and support after making such a significant purchase. I hope management takes customer concerns more seriously and works to improve both communication and transparency regarding coverage and warranty options. ”
