Buy vs Lease in Huntsville, AL
If you’re searching for a Kia vehicle to drive in Huntsville, you may be wondering whether buying or leasing one would suit your lifestyle better. To help you come to a decision, University Kia Huntsville has prepared this guide on what differentiates these two options. Tune in to learn more!
Buying
When you purchase a car, you have to pay the asking price in cash up front or cover as much as you can through a down payment, financing the rest of the balance with a loan. Either way, buying a vehicle is a huge financial commitment, as your liquidity may suffer, or you may have to reimburse a lender for up to seven years. However, you can accommodate budgetary restrictions by considering pre-owned models. Also, buying ends with full vehicle ownership, which allows you to customize your vehicle by adding exterior as well as performance modifications to really make it your own. Not having to worry about how many miles you accrue on the odometer is another benefit of purchasing.
Leasing
When you lease a factory-fresh Kia, you do have to be mindful of how much you’re driving up and down Interstate 565, as one of the terms of your contract would be to abide by a mileage allowance. No need to fret, however, as this figure is determined by you. Plus, it typically ranges from 10,000 to 15,000 miles, which should be enough to accommodate average travel needs. What makes some of the restrictions of leasing worthwhile is its affordable cost. Because of the temporary nature of your vehicle possession, your payments only cover its depreciation over time, resulting in a lower down payment and monthly installments. Plus, manufacturer warranties allow you to save on maintenance and repair costs, as these coverage programs usually last longer than the typical term of a lease.
Which Option Is Right for Me?
Whether buying or leasing a car is more suitable for you depends on many factors, such as your lifestyle, budget, and life plans. For example, if you like to visit rugged destinations like Monte Sano State Park, you may benefit from purchasing a vehicle, as you won’t have to worry about end-of-lease excess wear and use charges caused by off-road driving. On the other hand, if you are in the area for university and plan to move back home in the opposite end of the country in a couple of years, leasing may be more favorable, as you won’t have to stress about moving logistics with a vehicle. Also, if you have little to no credit history, leasing can help you build your creditworthiness as long as you make timely payments. For more advice, reach out to our Finance Department!

“ In the past 3 years of regularly scheduled maintenance, I have come to love the Service Dept at University Kia. For the first time in decades of shady practices & upselling unnecessary work at other car maker dealerships, I trust Univ Kia Service Advisors to do right by me. And their mechanics get it right first time, every time. Wait time is very good, prices for parts & labor in line w other dealerships. Everyone there is friendly, accommodating to your needs, and treat you w respect. They recently opened a nice new waiting room w amenities. ”

“ Team wonderful Made me feel good about allowing them to touch my car. ”
“ Sales staff and purchase process went well. Service is terrible. (Not maintenance , that gets through pretty fast, I'm talking vehicle issues) It is University Kia's policy to hold your vehicle on-site until they diagnose your issue. Sure, makes sense, except their service department is backed up for WEEKS. In 2025, I was told 10 weeks before they'd even look at it. Not repair it, just diagnose it. You can not take the car back without loosing your spot in line. This is such a problem for them that they refuse to even tell you a diagnostic timeline over the phone. You must take your vehicle to them. My 2023 EV6 is in limp mode and must be towed. I will NOT tow there to lose my car for months. I had to arrange a tow on my dime, to Decatur Kia, where they look at it the same day. ”
“ University Kia is very efficient and timely making a sale but service after the sale has been atrocious for me. I received call after call from 3 different people before the sale , now nothing but dead air and it appears the sales staff have no information about ANYTHING outside of sales. I've bought 2 cars there but never again ”
“ Took my car in for recall and they said 24-48 hours sitting here 72+ no car called Saturday they said the tech was off so they only have one person who works on cars now they cost me 65 dollars for missing my daughters speech therapy tomorrow I’m so disappointed with the service now got a call back from them saying I need these things I just changed my spark plugs before I dropped my car off I have the old plugs still so they are trying to scam me this is outrageous I will never deal with them again ”
“ Please read before purchasing from this Kia dealership. I purchased my 2021 Kia Telluride from this location five years ago, and unfortunately, my negative experience began before I even finalized the purchase. During the sale, I was charged an additional $5,000 due to what was described as “high demand.” While I understand market adjustments, the process felt excessive and unethical. For my first oil change, I scheduled an appointment and arrived early, expecting my vehicle to be serviced at that time. After waiting two hours, I was informed that my appointment was actually a drop-off time and my vehicle had not yet been looked at. The oil change ultimately took 4.5 hours. At checkout, I was asked to pay an additional $5 for their online document storage system to retain my service records. I found it unreasonable to expect customers to pay for the dealership’s internal record-keeping system. Later, I brought my vehicle in for warranty repairs. I was initially told they would need to keep my car for over seven days and would not provide a rental. After speaking with a manager, I was eventually provided a rental vehicle, but my car was kept for 11 days. When I picked it up, not all of the issues I had clearly discussed with the technician were addressed. I was told those concerns were never mentioned, despite personally reviewing them at drop-off. Most recently, I scheduled an appointment for an oil leak diagnosis. Once again, I arrived on time only to be told it was a drop-off appointment and that the diagnosis would take two days — with no loaner vehicle provided. When I asked to speak with the service manager, she approached the conversation with an abrasive tone, repeatedly interrupting me and attempting to finish my sentences. I had to clarify multiple times that she was misunderstanding my point. I was told, “You can go rent a car, we will not do this.” I was also informed that rental assistance is handled “case by case,” despite being told something different previously by another manager. Based on my repeated experiences, this location appears to have systemic management and customer service issues. Once the vehicle is purchased, the level of care and professionalism significantly declines. I cannot recommend buying or servicing a vehicle at this dealership. I would strongly suggest considering other Kia locations, and not the Decatur one this is terrible as well, or exploring other options entirely. ”
“ Don’t be fooled with their “sweepstakes winner” crap. Your scratch off number doesn’t mean crap. The numbers printed in the bottom block must match a display they have in store. They bait you with a $750 cash winner when in reality it is a $5 Walmart gift card. ”
“ I thought about this review long and hard before I decided to write something. I prayed about it and this is what I was led to say. I still purchased a car from Kia but with reluctance, I had told my father not to come here. He insisted that they would do us right. I got there at 12:30 and didn’t end up leaving until roughly 5 ish maybe later but here is my issue : I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this Kia dealership in Huntsville. What should have been a straightforward and transparent car buying process turned into something that felt misleading and frustrating. Throughout my interaction with the staff, I encountered what I believe were inconsistencies and untruths regarding pricing and terms. The numbers changed, explanations shifted, and I did not feel that full transparency was provided. Integrity is one of the most important qualities in any business transaction especially when customers are making major financial decisions and unfortunately, that standard was not met in my experience. What concerns me even more is that the dealership promotes itself as a Black-owned business, which should represent empowerment, trust, and community support. Instead of feeling valued as a customer, I felt taken advantage of. Representation should never be used as a marketing shield while engaging in practices that undermine trust. I believe dealerships should operate with honesty, transparency, and integrity at all times. Customers deserve clear communication, consistent pricing, and ethical treatment regardless of who owns the business. Integrity should always come before profit. You cannot claim you’re a Christian but conduct yourself in a manner that is not reflective of Christian values. At the end of the day just because someone says I’m a Christian that means nothing and just because someone says we’re black owned that means nothing as well. I also refrained from mentioning the sales representative’s name and the sale’s managers name because I believe they were trained this way. This is a reflection of ownership. ”
“ I received a flyer in the mail and I was told to come get the prize I won and they refused to give me my prize they gave me a 5 dollar walmart gift card waste of time and gas worse place to go just to trapping you in getting a car with hight interest payments ”
